I was lucky enough to get my boarding pass and join this amazing tour- of the Caribbean and this blog tour! With huge thanks to Rosie and Wildfire for this VIP journey.
Detangling the Plot:
Charlotte and Sam were partners. In life, and in crime. They never stole from anyone who couldn't afford it. Wealthy clients, luxury cruise ships. It was easy money, and harmless. At least, that's what Charlotte told herself, until the world caved in on her.
But now, years after she tried to put that past life behind her, it comes rushing back when her estranged ex-husband Sam suddenly goes missing - and someone threatens to expose what they did.
Desperate to escape whoever is tormenting her, Charlotte takes a job as events planner for an engagement party onboard a superyacht in the Caribbean. For a while, her plan seems to have worked, nothing but open ocean and clear skies ahead. Until it becomes clear that she's no longer a thousand miles away from harm.
Because whoever is behind it all is onboard too. And now there's nowhere left to run.
Bobs and Books honest review:
My heart was racing from the very first chapter, and it never loses it's pace. Its wonderfully creepy throughout and I was itching to get to the end. The book teases between then and now and both equally I just needed to know more immediately. It felt like in some scenarios Charlotte was an unreliable narrator, but Karen's writing is so clever that you feel like you know her and "get" her purely with the little remarks provided. Charlotte will say something to a character and then we get "True." "Untrue." It seems unusual that she'd be so honest with herself, particularly as the past and truth uncovers more and more.
By the half way point, I was in full Barbados mode, sunnies on, bikini packed wanting to meet the characters on the yacht. This is a perfect getaway read and does very nearly lull you into a false sense of security. However, as notes, and potential clues unravel, you feel less safe, less holiday mode and enter detective mode. Who on the yacht is out to get Charlotte? I think I suspected nearly everyone, and wowies that final showdown is hard hitting, shocking and vicious.
I'm glad to report the numerous twists didn't make me sea sick on board, but engrossed and captivated. Nothing could distract me from this read. Superb.
