A huge thanks to Melville House for my gifted copy of this read. I am thrilled to be on the tour.

What's it about?
Travel is easier, more accessible, and more tempting than ever before in today’s world. But what impact is our globetrotting having on local communities and the environment? From his own experiences spending time in countries from Spain to Argentina to Japan, travel writer Daniel Maurer has seen first hand the impact of growing cultural homogenization and the anger at the tourists driving it. Some cities already have plans in place to combat over tourism, including tourist taxes, carbon emission targets and Airbnb bans, and in the coming years, more will take drastic measures to tackle not only a flood of tourists but a growing worldwide workforce of ‘location-independent professionals.’ Technological advances are also changing the way we interact with the world, and the future promises amazing things, from flying taxis to VR headsets; AI travel influencers to self driving cars. But there’s a constant battle between technology making things more easily accessible, and the need to reduce human impact on the world. What choices might we make when it comes to traveling in the future?
Bobs and Books review:

This reads as a travel guide as well as a narrative on future travel to me, but actually the two really complement each other. An interesting look back to the past and how it shapes travel's future. The thoughts on technology were fascinating and insightful, and hearing from a well travelled 'expert' brought it all to life even more.
Another wonderful addition to the Futures series, a series I have enjoyed from the start that adds more opinions, and insightful ponderings on ever thought provoking topics.
