Fringe worthy reads- A Parent Apart, Gary Wright

As a blogger and book reviewer, I still feel honoured when I'm contacted to review a book. It is an absolute privilege, and not one I take for granted. When I read something and its an absolute gem of a novel, then I get truly excited. This is the case here.

What's it about?

A day at the beach. A momentary lapse in supervision. A parent's worst fears realised.

Andrew Wicks would do anything for his family. When tragedy strikes, he is forced to make a split-second decision, one that is layered with deception, desperation and self-preservation. As a tenacious police officer unravels his web of lies and exposes the truth, worlds collide.

There is no greater pain than losing a child. There is no greater torment than knowing it was avoidable.

Gripping, haunting and totally compelling, this is a novel that will make you question how far you would go to preserve the sanctity of family life.

Bobs and Books honest review:

For a debut, this is truly incredible. I already cannot wait to see what this author comes up with next.

A really heartfelt, tragic story where passion, protecting your family, and police procedures are at the heart. Its powerful, and being put in such an impossible position really makes you think as a reader.

Being Cornish, I've always had a positive relationship with the sea, but this really challenged me to see another side. An impossible decision leads two families to spiral out of control in different ways and its just so clever the way in which they are woven and drawn together.

The sea also seems to represent the form of this piece. Each chapter stuns and you feel like you've been knocked over by a wave, again and again.

Its clear the author knows police procedure as the scenes felt so realistic. This goes at a real pace, my heart was pounding throughout. Was up until 1am not wanting to put this down, so desperate to know how it ended. The ending does not disappoint.

Hard hitting, intricate, show stopping, thought provoking. This one will stay with me.

Out NOW.
